The TLM 102 excels in vocal and speech recording. Its finely tuned sound especially accents audio in the 8-12 KHz range, which is crucial for human voice, and with a slight presence lift above 6 KHz the TLM 102 offers strong definition and presence. It has an integrated pop shield to help handle plosives, and the capsule itself has an elastic suspension to remove structure-borne noise.
With a transformerless output stage, the TLM 102 provides a clean and direct sound when close up, and a powerful bass transmission way down to the lowest frequencies. This also makes the microphone resistant to electromagnetic fields and minimises loss of transmission.
With a maximum sound pressure level of up to 144 dB, the TLM 102 can easily process extreme volume and jumps in dynamics without distorting. This makes it ideal to mic loud amps and drums. The result is a clear, powerful sound.
With the microphone itself weighing in at around 230g and due to its compact size, we often think of the TLM 102 as the smaller, lower priced sibling of the TLM 103, without compromising on the quality you expect from the Neumann brand.
